Robin Teigland (Ph.D.) is since 2018 Professor - Management of Digitalization at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. Prior to that she was Professor of Business Administration, with a specialization in Strategic Information Systems Management at SSE.
Robin was a member SSE’s Board of Directors 2017 to 2018 as well as the Program Director of SSE's PhD Program in Business Administration and a a member of the Faculty and Program Board 2010 to 2015. Outside of SSE, Robin is a Fellow of the KIN Center for Digital Innovation at the VU University in Amsterdam. In 2017, 2018, and 2019 she was listed by the Swedish business magazine, Veckans Affärer, as one of Sweden’s most influential women, primarily in technology. Additionally, she has been listed as one of the Global Top 50 Business Professors on Twitter (@robinteigland), and in 2008 she received the “Researcher of the Year” award at the Stockholm School of Economics.
Robin's lecturing and research interests reside at the intersection of strategy, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship and include the following:
- Digital innovation networks and the creation and diffusion of knowledge through internet-enabled communities and networks, e.g., open source software communities, digital entrepreneurial ecosystems
- Technology-based strategy and the impact of digitalization and ICTs on the firm
- Digitalization and the influence of the convergence of disruptive technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence, IoT, smart robots, blockchains, 3D printing, virtual reality, on labor and value creation in society
- The new industrial revolution and the future of the Swedish welfare state and the nation state
Robin has published numerous academic journal articles and book chapters and industry reports. Her most recent book is The Rise and Development of FinTech: Accounts of Disruption from Sweden and Beyond and is available for download through open access at Routledge Publishing. Robin is often interviewed on Swedish national TV and radio, and her research is frequently mentioned in Swedish and international media. For example, her most recent report, The Substitution of Labor – From technological feasibility to other factors influencing the potential of job automation, was featured in Forbes in February 2018. She is a sought after global speaker, having spoken for multinationals such as Microsoft, Google, H&M, and Volkswagen, and for Sweden’s government ministries, such as the Ministry of Finance, and other organizations, such as the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce (www.robinteigland.com).
Additional academic positions include a research associate and postdoc, FENIX – Centre for Innovations in Management, SSE and Chalmers University of Technology, 2003 to 2004; associated researcher, Center for Research on Innovation and Industrial Dynamics (CiND), Uppsala University, 2004 to 2009; and adjunct professor, International Management PhD Program, Department of Economics and Business Administration, University of Agder, Norway, 2009 to 2014.
On a personal note, Robin is from the USA and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee (but she does not sing :-) ). She holds a B.A. in Economics with Distinction from Stanford University, an MBA from the Wharton School, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics. She also has a range of work experience, such as venture capital in Silicon Valley, consulting for McKinsey & Co. in Sweden and Spain, an entrepreneur in Norway, production operations for Esso in Chile, stock brokerage in Spain, and international banking in USA. In her free time, she enjoys playing and constantly learning from her five children as well surfing longboard waves in Portugal, California, and other sunny places around the world.
