This program offers a fantastic opportunity to connect with individuals you might not encounter otherwise. I was very eager to meet someone from a different background who could teach me about career development, hard and soft skills, and life in general. I looked forward to exchanging experiences and learning from someone with a different perspective. The diverse pool of mentors at SSE enabled me to get a great match that aligned perfectly with my aspirations.

The best part is definitely having someone who can guide and support you while helping you learn from their career experience, including both learnings and mistakes. In my opinion, a mentor is also someone who pushes you out of your comfort zone while creating a safe space where you feel comfortable addressing all questions. This safe environment acts as a playground, enabling you to try new things and maximize your learning. In my case, my mentor encouraged me to practice my presentation skills, an area where I felt less confident. It was reassuring because I received direct feedback and practice in an open and caring learning environment.

 

 

Be open to connecting someone from a field you're interested in but know little about. This can offer new perspectives and a broader understanding. Reflect on what you seek from your mentor-mentee relationship, whether it's job opportunities, career advice, soft skills, or other areas. Discuss these goals with your mentor to ensure alignment. Additionally, stay open to spontaneous turns in your discussions, as these often lead to deep and insightful conversations.
