SSE Art Initiative welcomes you to a music seminar in collaboration with Naimark & Friends concert collective. The collective was founded by violinist Henrik Naimark Meyers, a SSE student, and represents a new generation of musicians looking to put classical music into modern context. By shifting focus from the music itself to the context in which it was written, the traditional concert form is disrupted and made into an experience of musical as well as narrative nature.
In the ghetto inside-out seminar we will explore the effects of cultural alienation from a musical perspective. What does segregation sound like? Where is the intersection between integration and assimilation and when does elimination begin? By following the Jewish minority from renaissance Venice to modern time New York via Berlin, Naimark & Friends will translate abstract speculation into music and approach complex questions about religion, society, and integration with a new mindset.
