Winterreise

Johan Bergström Hyldahl´s artvideo Winterreise (2015) is a romantic story about dreams, alienation and loss. In the video we follow the gorilla Katharina Wisnierska and her life in Bavaria, Germany. At a young age - around the same time as the moon suddenly and inexplicably disappears from its orbit around the world – Katharina becomes interested in flying, and she will in time devote herself to paragliding. Her sense of connection with the moon and birds becomes a comfort in a world where she otherwise feels left out. In Bergström Hyldahl’s saga, Katharina’s flying dreams carry her further than she could ever imagine, while rapidly bringing her closer to the inevitable end.
Winterreise is driven forward by music, above all Schubert’s piano concerto of the same name.
 
Johan Bergström Hyldahl has a bachelor´s degree from SSE and a master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm. He is represented in the SSE permanent collection with the four artworks (the animals!) in the corridor on floor 5: Hope, Courage, Preparation, Anticipation from 2018.
