Firestorm Talk: Karin Mamma Andersson

Join us for the second Firestorm Talk of the spring, a series of talks where we explore the visibility and value of women artists. Karin Mamma Andersson, one of the most influential artists of our time, will reflect on her journey as an artist and the experiences that have shaped her along the way. The talk will be moderated by Michael Storåkers, Partner at the Firestorm Foundation and PhD student at the Stockholm School of Economics. Karin Mamma Andersson (b. 1962) is recognized as one of the most important voices in contemporary art. She is internationally praised for her captivating interpretations of classical genres, bringing a distinctive mood and vibrant color to scenes of interiors, landscapes, and still lifes. Her works have been showcased in major exhibitions across Europe and America, with a landmark solo exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark in 2021.

Join us as Karin Mamma Andersson reflects on her journey to international acclaim and the role of women in the art world. Centered around the theme Women, Value, and Visibility, the conversation will explore how the role of women in the art world is shifting—and what that means for recognition, representation, and value today.

SSE Art Initiative and Firestorm Foundation
Firestorm Foundation is a non-profit initiative founded in 2021, dedicated to highlighting female and non-binary artists for a more inclusive art world. Beginning in 2025, the foundation will support initiatives at SSE to advance knowledge and promote equality for female and non-binary artists through seminars, a master’s thesis scholarship, and donations to the SSE Permanent Collection.
