Newly appointed Practitioner in Residence Stefan Krook to strengthen innovation and sustainability at SSE

Serial entrepreneur Stefan Krook has been appointed as Practitioner in Residence at SSE’s House of Innovation. His goal is to strengthen the School’s connections with the business community and explore new paths towards a more sustainable market economy.

The House of Innovation (HOI) at the Stockholm School of Economics combines research on innovation, digitalization, and entrepreneurship to address global challenges. The hub collaborates with businesses and society to develop sustainable solutions. Now, HOI and the Jacob & Marcus Wallenberg Center for Innovation and Sustainable Business Development are initiating a new partnership with serial entrepreneur and SSE alumnus Stefan Krook, who will serve as Practitioner in Residence over the coming year.

A Practitioner in Residence is a professional who works at an academic institution for a limited period of time in order to contribute practical insights and industry expertise, drawing from their real-world experience in a specific field.

Stefan Krook founded and publicly listed his first company, Glocalnet, while still a student at SSE. After graduation, he launched the GoodCause foundation, which owns GodEl, an electrical company where all profits go to charity. Stefan Krook is also a co-founder of tech company Kivra, where he currently serves as chairman. Additionally, he has previously been a board member of SSE Business Lab, the Stockholm School of Economics' business incubator.

Building a sustainable market economy

As Practitioner in Residence, Stefan Krook aims to build bridges between academia, the business community, and policymakers, working to develop and promote ideas about how the market economy can be adapted to become more resource-efficient and sustainable for the planet in the long-term.

"For over 20 years, I have worked to create positive impact through business and entrepreneurship. I firmly believe that the rules of the market economy need to be updated for us to continue progressing while staying within planetary boundaries. I am very grateful to the Stockholm School of Economics and the House of Innovation for offering me the opportunity to collaborate on developing these ideas. The School has held a special place for me for 30 years and is the inspiration of many of the ideas I now want to explore further," says Stefan Krook.

For HOI, this collaboration presents an opportunity for faculty and students to exchange experiences, insights, and inspiration with a committed social entrepreneur.

"One of the most important roles of an institute of higher learning is to create spaces for new ideas to flourish. I am confident that this new collaboration fulfil that role perfectly and bring tremendous value to both faculty and students. Stefan has long been a loyal friend and supporter of the Stockholm School of Economics, and I believe this new position will strengthen that relationship even further and take it to new levels. HOI and the center will greatly benefit from Stefan’s extensive network, spanning both research and education," says Valentina Tartari, director of the Jacob & Marcus Wallenberg Center for Innovation and Sustainable Business Development.

The Stockholm School of Economics strives to integrate sustainability into all aspects of its operations, fostering synergies between academia and the business world. The combination of the School’s focus and entrepreneurial drive creates unique opportunities to successfully tackle the global challenges we face.
