Dagens Industri Debatt: The New Productivity Commission Needs to Elevate Swedish Leadership
The current economic recession is an opportunity for Sweden to discuss how it can secure long-term competitiveness, which is why the recently announced productivity commission by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson is a welcome development. However, Bringselius and Wennberg argue that the commission needs to have a broader focus and perspective than its 1991 predecessor, which failed to capture the growth of the service sector and technological advancements.
Bringselius and Wennberg recommend that the commission include multiple disciplines such as organizational theory, behavioral science, computer science, biology, technology, and law. They also argue that the commission should focus on both business and administration, and highlight the importance of Sweden's trust-based leadership tradition.
Bringselius and Wennberg suggest that the commission work with different scenarios and be called the Growth Commission rather than the Productivity Commission, as sustainable growth in international competition should be the goal. The commission's work should be continuous, with regular updates to keep pace with the rapidly changing society.
