Summary

On December 6, 2024, the Forum for Research on Gender Economics in Eastern Europe (FROGEE) and SITE hosted a one-day conference at the Stockholm School of Economics titled "How Does Gender Matter in the Economy?".

This high-level academic conference emphasized the significance of gender economics, with discussions focusing on gender dynamics in labor markets, economic behavior, politics, and societal challenges such as violence against women. The event showcased FROGEE's progress in advancing gender economics research and policy across Eastern Europe, while also laying the groundwork for continued collaboration and research within the FREE Network and partner institutions across Eastern Europe.

Session 1: The Evolution of Gender In The Labor Market

The first of four keynote lectures was delivered by Prof. Barbara Petrongolo from the University of Oxford. Prof. Petrongolo presented her paper titled "The Evolution of Gender in the Labor Market," which is forthcoming in the "Handbook of Labor Economics, Vol. 5." co-authored by Claudia Olivetti and Jessica Pan.
